Our company founder, Frederick Q. Oiler, had 30 years with National Airlines and Pan American World Airways as an instructor on the transporting of hazardous materials (dangerous goods), for both airlines.

After retiring from the airlines, Fred did hazmat consulting work for various companies, in the Orlando area. He was urged, by numerous individuals, to establish a hazardous materials training company so that the businesses would have a local training facility.

In September 1998, Fred established FQO Hazmat Training, Inc., in Orlando, Florida, so that he could continue to help make our world a safer place in which to live, work and travel. The company grew to the point that expansion was the only solution to the constant demand for hazmat training, covering a greater area.

We mourn the passing of Fred, on March 18, 2011. The company will continue to operate, to carry on his dream of "Making our world a safer place, in which to live, work and travel, through hazmat training."
In March 2000, FQO Hazmat Training, Inc. expanded to the Atlanta, Georgia area. Joseph Hamby, our instructor in Atlanta, was included at the inception of this expansion. Joe was previously employed with AirTran Airways, for 5 years, in their stores department, which gave him the hands on experience with shipment of hazardous materials. He feels his background in cargo and hazardous materials has given him added insight into a variety of situations that a regular instructor would not have, ordinarily. Joe is proud of the fact that, in May of 2000, he successfully completed the IATA Instructors course and proudly displays his certificate. Joe is also proud to say that he holds the position of Vice President of the Atlanta Air Cargo Association for 2011 and was the Treasurer during 2010. He has also been a member of the Board of Directors for the AACA. Joe is still demonstrating Fred’s way of thinking, by making our world a safer place, through hazmat training.
In June 2002, the Head Quarters for FQO Hazmat Training, Inc. moved to New Martinsville, West Virginia and Fred along with it. With this move Fred wanted to guarantee that his established clients, as well as all future clients, would continue to have the opportunity to obtain hazmat training in the Orlando, Florida area. We were able to obtain Matt Engel as our instructor. Matt was employed by the FAA for 8 years as an air traffic controller and then flew cargo for 4 years. He then became the Director of Safety for Capital Cargo for a period of 8 years. He continues to provide safety guidance through hazmat training for us, helping to make our world a safer place, through hazmat training.
Through our instructors training, those that deal with hazardous materials learn how to
classify, document, package, mark, label, and verify that the hazardous materials,
being prepared for shipment, is in the proper condition for transport, in a safe manner,
which is required by both national (DOT) and international (ICAO) regulations.
